Badass Mommy & Me Class

Combining a Child Development Background with over three decades of experience empowering kids through martial arts, our Badass Mommy & Me Class applies the same play-based teaching method that popularized our Wee Kick Program. It’s goal is to introduce 3 to 3.5 year olds to the value of self regulation while gaining gross motor skills & giggles with their parents! Each 30-minute class promotes fun movement in ways that deepen connection with their grown ups! Benefits include improved coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility while planting seeds of social skills like kindness, empathy & mindfulness through movements that prepare them not only for our Wee Kick Program, but for any activity that benefits from impulse control and emotional regulation. Classes are currently forming. Join Us for a Free First Session!

Once kids are self regulated enough to go solo, they can transition into our Wee Kick Program and go back & forth between programs as needed.

What inspired the Badass Mommy & Me Program?

Having lived it himself, Richard Alonzo is inspired by the impact that martial arts can have on kids that goes beyond learning self defense. After catching the teaching bug in 1991 and performing stunts for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Live Action Tour in 1995, he started Dojo2go.com to bring professional quality instruction to after school enrichment programs and summer camps in 2001. His time in the after school program & summer camp space served as the R&D Department for his unique teaching method, later incorporating Child Development experiences to develop a holistic age appropriate approach to introducing the youngest of kids to martial arts. The Wee Kick Program for 3.5 to 6 year olds followed in 2005, but there wasn’t a place for kids who hadn’t yet discovered the value of self regulation, until now!

How Young Is Too Young for Martial Arts?

We’d like to be able to share that every child who joins the Wee Kick Program takes to it immediately and thrives, but the truth is that every child is different and success in any endeavor for such young kids depends the child’s impulse control and the teacher’s ability to connect with them to grab & keep their attention. For kids just discovering impulse control, having a parent in class with them helps them to overcome their fears, to encourage their positive behaviors, and to plant seeds of social & emotional learning. And during this process, of course, parents will be learning a bit of martial arts themselves!

Parents of enrolled monthly students also get to enjoy a FREE Month of Classes themselves in a variety of different martial arts, including our core curriculum of Taekwondo & Hapkido (https://youtu.be/iGiZ4HTBLzI?feature=shared), Kali (a Filipino Martial Art that was prominently featured in Dune 2), Hapkido for Self Defense, and Muay Thai Kickboxing as taught by the Director of the UCLA Martial Arts Department.

Developing Skills for Life

We believe that character development is forged through adversity in a nurturing environment. Our overarching goal in martial arts training is to build confident, responsible individuals who understand the importance of respect, empathy, and self-regulation. By teaching our students how to recognize boundaries—both theirs and those of others—we instill essential life skills along with martial arts techniques.
